The dissertation focuses on improving organizational, methodological, and clinical approaches to specialized care for patients with thyroid nodules in the Kursk Region. It examines the prevalence and structure of thyroid nodules, thyroid cancer within the structure of nodules, disability, the organization of care at the population, outpatient, and surgical levels, and immediate and long-term treatment outcomes.
The study analyzes the specialized thyroid clinic established on the basis of the Kursk Regional Oncology Dispensary, preoperative diagnosis, indications for and extent of surgery, early-diagnosis organization, and the clinical aspects of extrafascial interventions involving visual identification and preservation of the recurrent laryngeal nerves and parathyroid glands.

- The study addresses patients with thyroid nodules in the Kursk Region. Since 2001, work has been undertaken in Kursk, with the participation of the dissertation author, to optimize specialized care for this patient group.

Malignant neoplasms account for 12–30% of all thyroid nodules, while the proportion of cancer among operated patients reaches 25–30%; consequently, the extent of surgery for different forms of nodular thyroid disease remains debated.

- The proposed directions include a specialized thyroid clinic at the Kursk Regional Oncology Dispensary and interaction among specialists and physicians of other disciplines, improved diagnostic accuracy, well-grounded decisions to forgo surgery in some patients, extrafascial operations with visual identification and preservation of the recurrent laryngeal nerves and parathyroid glands, and organizational and methodological measures for early diagnosis.
